Get Real NY Craft Beer Festival - Spring 2011

We went to the Get Real NY Craft Beer Festival today! They have set up the event space at The Altman building and filled it with some dedicated homebrewers, speakers, and of course, hundreds of cask beers!

You get unlimited beer for 3 hours from some amazing breweries, as well as some homebrew creations. I was disappointed that Cigar City wasn’t there, as they were one of my favorites last time, but we still found some great selections this time around; a partial list is on their site here. Some of our favorites were:
- Barrier Ruthless Rye IPA
- Dieu du Ciel Corne du Diable IPA
- Captain Lawrence Brown Bird Brown Ale
- Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet Black IPA
- Great Divide Belgica Belgian-Style IPA
- Green Flash West Coast IPA
- Weyerbarcher Double Simcoe with Mango
We also saw a homebrewed Habañero Porter called “Burnin’ Yearnin’, which was awesome! We are definitely going to have to try something similar soon ourselves.
Honorable Mention has to go to the guys at Bierkraft, who had a Ghostbusters style device pumping beer through fresh hops!
In addition to the crazy extensive selection of beer, they also had a really amazing food spread. We went last fall and it definitely was not as diverse in terms of food selection. Some highlights were—
Shrimp Roll from Luke’s Lobster:
Pretzel Roll with Pork Sausage from Great Performances:
Rock Shrimp Chili made with Brooklyn Monster Ale from Anfora:
Bacon Pecan Brittle and Bacon and Bourbon Popcorn from South Houston Restaurant:
Salted Caramel Macaroons from Danny Macaroons:
It was a great event! They’re doing another day tomorrow with a whole new food lineup, so check it out at http://www.getrealny.com/.
